The Early Years

Hello and a very warm welcome to the Early Years section. Our Early Years classroom (aka Reception or Foundation Stage) is called Acorn Class and it’s where the fun (and learning!) starts.

For photographs of what we've been getting up to so far this year, please visit our Acorn page in the "Children" section.

Earlier this year, I hosted our Induction Meeting for parents. In case you missed it, or if you want to refresh what you heard that night, the presentations are attached below.

Rather than overload yourselves with all the information available immediately, I would suggest you go through the    "Life in Acorn Class" presentation with your child first to see what school life is going to be like for them. The Early Years Curriculum presentation is not nearly as child-friendly, so you may want to have a look at that by yourselves.

Once the Autumn Term has begun, photos and topic webs of the work we will be covering will be displayed on the Acorn Class page in the "Children" section of this website.

We hope you like the look of our big, happy family and we look forward to getting to know you and your little ones very

well.

Acorn Curriculum Map 2023-2024

Phonics is a way of teaching children how to read quickly and skilfully. They are taught how to:

~ recognise the sounds that each individual letter makes;

~ identify the sounds that different combinations of letters make such as /sh/ or /ee/;

~ blend these sounds together from left to right to read a word.

Below is a photographic presentation to show you how children will progress in their phonic learning throughout their first year in school.

(More information on the order in which graphemes are taught and on progression throughout KS1 can be found in the "Curriculum" and "English" tabs under "Key Information".)
