Mrs Shahne Vickery

There are few responsibilities greater and more rewarding than supporting and encouraging those who educate our children and I feel very privileged to be serving as a Foundation Governor for the Gateway Federation of Schools.

Having recently retired from my role as a Primary Education Adviser in the Church of England, I moved to Gorsley in the summer of 2021 with my husband, who has also retired.  He was vicar of a large, busy urban parish Church in North Bristol.

Before becoming an adviser I worked for over 20 years in both Church and Community schools as a classroom teacher and then in various leadership roles.  My teaching experience has mainly been in rural schools, similar to Lea C of E and Gorsley Goffs, that are at the heart of their communities and where the focus is on educating the whole child as well as striving for the highest academic standards.

As an adviser my responsibilities included supporting the teaching of RE, Values Education and Collective Worship (assemblies) in Primary Schools.  I also managed a team of inspectors who carried out SIAMS (Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools).

Soon after beginning my work as an adviser, I noticed that resources to support staff in Church schools with their teaching of Values Education were scarce.  I therefore started to write and publish materials myself.  I continue to produce these materials which are now used by most Church Schools throughout England and Wales.

I have two children and four grandchildren.  My daughter is a headteacher in Cheltenham and my son, a secondary school teacher in London.
