Marvellous Micro organisms

In science, we have been learning about living things. We started by looking at animals and plants and classifying them using their similar characteristics. We also learnt about the work of Carl Linnaeus and his impact on naming and grouping animals.

We then moved on to learn about microorganisms, the living things that we cannot see! We set up an experiment to test if yeast (a microorganism) was alive. Using a bottle, warm water, yeast and a balloon, we were able to see if the yeast would respire. Then we developed our questioning to see if the yeast would respire more in different conditions. We tested the yeast using these independent variables: temperature, light, air, food and amount of water. We really enjoyed finding out the best conditions for yeast to live.
